Description
Our Classic heritage bush shirt, with over 110 years of proven performance in the wild.
Our Original Bush shirt is made from densely woven 'strong' wool grown in New Zealand. The dense weave protects from wind and rain while remaining breathable. New Zealand strong wool is an incredible natural fibre, of 31+ micron which remains breathable and warm even when it gets wet. It's an incredibly durable garment and people hand their originals down through the generations as they are so long lasting.
Wool is virtually silent when moving so it's the preferred choice of hunters and bushmen where silence and stealth are important. The exterior of wool fibres are also hydrophobic meaning they repel water naturally, but internally they are hygroscopic meaning they can absorb water or sweat without leaving you feeling damp or cold.
Our wool is sourced through the highest standard of ethical and sustainable wool sourcing in the world - ZQRX which ensures that our growers conduct farming practices in line with a strict set of animal welfare and sustainability principals, including regenerative agriculture methods. Independent auditing ensures that standards are met and exceeded year after year.
The OG bush shirt is constructed as other traditional garments, using one continuous piece of heavy wool fabric from the front to the back hem, eliminating shoulder seams. It is designed to be very roomy, allowing layers to be worn underneath. It's lined through the body with a loose liner which is softer against the skin. The 3-piece hood has an extra lining panel which reinforces the shaping of the hood and prevent it peaking at the front for a more secure fit around your face.
The sleeves are unlined to keep the weight of material on your arms to the minimum and allow free movement. The shoulders are very roomy and allow you to raise your arms above your head or in front of you with no straining or restrictions.
The bush shirt is a longer mid-hip length allowing you to sit and crouch down while hunting without getting wet. The length also keeps the bush shirt from riding up when climbing or crouching, keeping your back covered.
The tie front detail is part of the traditional heritage styling, easier to close than a zip, when wearing gloves, but also allowing you to increase ventilation when working hard. The garment has a wide storm flap behind the laces, stopping wind and rain getting through.
The Original bush shirt was designed in 1913 by William Broome, our founder. He designed it without a hood initially but the hood was added in 1927. The bush shirt you buy today is the same as it was back in 1927, fit for purpose, and as relevant today as it was back then.
